My true journey to healthy hair care started January of 2008. Before that point, my main concern was how my hair looked in a particular style and how long I could grow it out, but not really what was best for it.After stalking BHM for a few months I decided to take the first step in helping recover my hair from its poor damaged state.

Now I always haven't had a problem with my hair. When I was younger (and natural), my bushy hair flowed down my back. Although I hated sitting in the kitchen all Saturday morning getting it pressed out my BigMama, I never had a problem with breakage or retaining length back then.

When I reached middle school and thought I was grown, I begged my mom to let me get a relaxer. After a ten minute persuasive speech and presentation pleading my case, she reluctantly agreed. Thats when things started going downhill....

In high school I thought I was too cute, rockin my bone-straight overprocessed hair with pride. My ends were thin and limp, and my split ends went on for days, but I loved my length and refused to cut my hair or change my regimen (which included gel, gel and more gel, hard bristle brushes, spritz and daily flat ironing). After a bad touch-up which caused 90% of my scalp to breakout in pus-gushing open sores, and extreme breakage caused by overprocessing, I knew I had to make some changes or I'd end up bald.

So now, at nineteen years of age, I've decided to treat my hair with all the tender love and care its been desperately craving for the past ten years.I've tossed a lot of products, revised my hair routine, and am sticking with the motto "K.I.S.S. (Keep It SimPLe Sista!!). I haven't had a relaxer since October of 2007 but haven't decided if I have what it takes to transition. Until I make up my mind, I'm going to continue with my new regimen on the road to thick healthy hair...

***UPDATED REGIMEN NOVEMBER 2008***

*While the weather was still warm, I cowashed 2x a week (VO5 MOISTURE MILKS or SUAVE COCONUT)

*I wash my hair once a week with Neutrogena Triple Moisture or Black Soap

* I DC with Silicon Mix (w/ coconut, EVOO, Honeyquat, & Silk Amino Acids added)

*Use VERY LOW manipulation, finger comb and wide tooth comb only

WasH DaY
Prepoo with Evoo, honey, Queen Helen Cholesterol, Glycerin, and Few Drops of Peppermint OIl..Plait in 4 Sections, Cover head with shower cap, then Leave on Overnight

-2tbs Suave Coconut Conditioner
-2tbs V05 Strawberry N Cream Conditioner
-1tbs NTM mask
-1tbs Black Strap Molasses
-2tbs Coconut Oil
-1/2cup Plain Yogurt
-2tsp Cinnamon (natural lightener)
(yea, sounds like a lot but this combo has worked miracles on my hair. Makes my new growth so soft and manageable, Relax for what?!? )

Wash 1x a week (usually friday) with either Aphogee Evening Primrose Deep Moisture, Mane N Tail, or NTM Cream Lather

DC with ORS replenishing Pak (alternate weeks with Silk Elements, Nexxus, Elasta QP Intense, NTM extra strength conditioning treatment) for at least 45min *Aphogee Protein Treatment once a month, Clarifying Treatment with Suave clarifying or baking soda one a month

Apply Nexxus Protexx and Elasta QP Mango butter after Deep Conditioning Treatment...Allow to AirDry

*update 5/08!
-Currently use NTM leave-in instead of mango butter..Will continue to use Elasta QP for nightly moisturizing, has become a little too heavy for morning use

Trying to eliminate heat but still currently using my flat iron...Only use on wash days but its still unnecessary heat my strands have to bare..Using 1" Sedu Ceramic/Tourmaline

Oil Scalp with a combination of Sulfur 8 oil, Wonder 8 oil, BB Growth Serum, Tea Tree and Peppermint Oil. Massage in and wrap hair (pincurls just aren't working for me!)
