I began my Hair Journey one day while looking at a Black Girl named Shima, with waist length afro textured hair. She was saying Black Woman can grow their hair as long as they want using protective styling and proper care. Shima said everyones hair is constantly growing if it were not there would be no need for anyone to ever have to keep perming it, and they would not have to sell so many in the stores. Our hair is growing, Woman of Color just have a low retention rate due to care and styling, it is braking off as fast as it grows out.

I did not believe her, but what she was saying made me think what if it was possible? and what if my hair really could grow? at first I felt her hair was just a nice looking weave. After speaking with her for a while as she proved it was her real hair, I discided to give it a try I started out with what I called my first 90 days. For 90 days I was going to do what she said and follow her directions, that was March 1, 2009. After the shock of seeing my own hair growth retention I was not turning back.

This is an account of this Journey... I ended up going looking at more sites about hair care for Woman of Color. I found so many sites that I had no idea ever existed. It became my mission to see if growing my hair pass my shoulder was possible.

As a Child my head was shaved at 12, growing up with very long hair and six Sisters with long hair my Mom could not keep it up and I was very bad with caring for it so my Mom shaved it all off a day I will never forget. I looked like a boy, in fact people thought I was my brother for some time after that.

I have always been told different reasons why my hair would never grow back, it was in shock or it was due to my age, or I needed to keep it cut on a regular basis and it would grow. My hair has never grown back past my shoulders again. I simply believed it was it was not possible I could actually grow my own hair.

Solon days are now over, after they also told me my hair brakage was due to age, After finding Fotki I realize these salons dont know what they are really talking about.

I have lost so much hair, all my life it has been braking or falling out, it was nothing to lose a brush full of hair every time I washed it. With constant falling hairs all over was just away of life for me. I went to the solon about once a month and color my hair about 2x per year. I have lost so much hair since my 20s I often wondered why I was not bald.

I tried my first 7 days of Proper Treatment and Protective Styling, I saw a big difference in my hair, Now I am a believer proper oils and style are the key to hair growth retention.

I only lost about 15 hairs off my head after two weeks and my first washing, that to me was impossible. We can grow our own hair with proper care and style.

I started a 90 Day Hair Growth Treatment on March 1, 2009 the picture here was me at Day 1. I am going to update that picture after my 90 days. My other pictures are of me along the Journey.
