See ABOUT ME for Vendors at our Christmas Show!

The Canadian Women’s Club of Barbados is the oldest International Women's Club in Barbados. Its history traces back to May of 1922 when it was founded as a "social" club for Canadian women living in Barbados,

Today the CWC boasts a diverse membership & a range of activities that includes support for many cultural and charitable organizations in Barbados.

The CWC was initially formed by Canadian women living in Barbados. Many had husbands involved with business between Canada and Barbados & a number were women who had married Barbadian men who had been studying in Canada. At the outset the CWC also had Barbadian woman members who had attended school in Canada & then joined the CWC upon their return to Barbados.

Following the Second World War burgeoning commerce between Canada & Barbados saw more and more Canadians living on the island:

Canadian Banks were some of the first overseas banks to set up in Barbados.
A large number of Barbadians were being educated at Canadian Universities.
In the '60's, '70's Barbados was encouraged small businesses to set up in Barbados and many Canadians took advantage of these incentives.
The tourist industry was building and with it more development projects that brought Canadian companies here for periods of time. The establishment of the Canadian High Commission in 1973.The expansion of the international business community in the '80's and '90's. All of these factors helped the CWC to dramatically increase its membership.

From a meeting of 12 ladies sipping tea in 1922 we now have almost 200 members, representing cultures from all over the world, not just Canada!

For 85 years the CWC has always been interested in assisting deserving causes in the Barbadian community. We continue to meet our stated objectives of bringing Canadian women together in a spirit of loyalty, friendship and helpfulness to each other; of working for the common good of Canada and Barbados.
