Hi everyone my name is Chantel, and I am a student at auburn university and newly natural sister (BC'd November 25, 2008) :). I have really enjoyed my hair journey for the past 2 years and I can't wait to see what the future has in store. Feel free to leave comments concerning products that you use or any helpful haircare tips. I hope to make some new friends and learn more about natural hair care and to be inspired by all of you here.
*****This is just a reflection of what I was going through the after my BC and how I decided to stop relaxing***************
Ok so it has been almost two weeks since my BC. I havent really had any openly negative comments about my new look most people either like it or say that they could never pull it off. It was funny that the more i was around at home to more my mom was starting to like my hair. She always said that she chose to perm my hair because that is the only way she new how to style it. I can't fault her at that because most people generally work with what they know. I have had perms since the age of 3 and i had a lot of hair (thick) that was about shoulder-length at its longest. I remember asking my mom could i have dreds and she told me that when i was 18 i could do whatever i wanted to my hair. Mind u that was in like middle school. Well my 18th birthday i surprised my mom with my highlights (oh so pretty) and i decided that i would stop getting perms right after graduation. A lot of girls asked my why i would wanna do that (as if being natural is something to be ashamed of) and me being the smart ass that i am would simply reply "because i wanted to." This decision is the first thing i have done for myself that i can actually say it's for me and nobody else. I have never felt so beautiful and confident as i do when i walk down the street now. And frankly i dont give a damn what anyone says my naps are here to stay :)
