- I am 4a type hair. have been natural since 2000. I did not cut off all of my hair initially but allowed it to get to shoulder length and then cut it into a chin length bob. During that time I wore a beautiful two strand twist style until I became tired of them.
I wore sister locks (hair is locked using a special technique and tool that looks like a crochet pin, locks are the size of micro braids) for 1 whole year. One of the conveniences was that one could style their hair just as they would if they had a chemical relaxer.
Sister locs does elongate your hair to whatever length that it is in a straight state. My hair is not very course so I never locked during the year that I wore that look. If your hair is course you could expect to lock sooner. It was a very diverse but I soon realized that I loved my hair in its natural curly coily state and so, in 2003 when for a big chop because sister locks is "Locks".
As my hair grew out I wore my two strand twist again but sometimes I would rod the twist to create a new look and take that down after 1-2 weeks. The longer my hair became the lazier I became in maintenance. Now, I realize the hair loss for not taking care or protecting my hair.
So here I am on a quest to grow it waist length which I have never had. My hair was always at shoulder or BSL....so please, follow me on my journey for healthier and longer hair....CheveuxNoir
