CoilyBeauty *2009 Updates* I missed ya'll

~I just recently lost my dad...he was struck by a car in the parking lot on 18Aug while I was deployed in Iraq and 22Aug he passed away. He was a minister, a father, a grandfather, a brother, an uncle...etc. I miss him so much and I was hoping to see him when I got back to the states...God had other plans! May God rest his soul and may he live thorugh every life he touched here on earth!

~I am 23 years old currently in the military stationed in Iraq from June 07'-Aug 08'. I love me & my coily, nappy, thick beautiful tender head has been through quite a whole lot!! It all started when I was about 14yrs old...I had long beautiful thick, nappy, coarse, hard to comb hair and I kept begging my mother to allow me to get a relaxer for my hair! She told me time after time "NO, NO,NO"!! I didn't listen I just kept asking until finally oneday she gave in because she felt bad that I went through all of that pain and suffering while she had to comb & brush my hair weekly! So we went and got a kiddie perm...put it in my hair but it did nothing...didn't change the texture or straighten it! So we went an purchased an adult mild relaxer and that straightened my hair. I can remember how happy and excited I was to see how straight and much longer my hair was. Weeks started passing by and started getting some breakage but no biggie, I didn't even fret about it because it wasn't a big deal! Then after months went by even though I was getting good hair care..my hair started breaking off badly till the point it was extremely uneven! So after a period of time my mom look at me and said "If you want all your hair to grow back, then you will have to let me cut off that perm"! Took me a while to say yes but after trying to fight with 2 textures and seeing how bad I looked I finally decided to go through with it! I had maybe 3inches of hair on my head and thought I'd always have short hair! Over time after my mom kept keeping it healthy and cornrowing it...it grew and grew! I was so happy just by a little bit of hair growth. Then I had decided to try extensions for the first time in my 12 grade year of high school which was in 2002! I was going on my 4th yr of being natural (again)! I started wearing single braids and twists PS...I loved my hair! But in 2005, I wanted a change...I was getting tired once again of battling that thick, long stuff on my head, so a friend of my family said well you can try Wave Nouveau and she said it's like a gheri curl or S curl but w/o the drip! So I went into the salon oneday and that was the last of all my beautiful, blk, thick hair! I loved the curly look...and I received many compliments. But overtime I noticed shedding, breakage and damage. I went and got a touch up...I believe til this day that the second time the lady left the chemical in way too long and she washed, dried then pressed and curled it because I no longer wanted the curl! Within just a few weeks to a month my hair fell out drastically..ONCE AGAIN! So I already knew what had to be done the "BC"! So once again I did the BC and even more devastated than ever! I used extensions, braids, cornrows and twists to transition. And my hair did grow slowly but surely...I've been currently natural now for about 2.5years and only reason my hair isn't long is because I had it cut in a style before I deployed to Iraq! I didn't want it cut and I didn't even know that crazy lady was even going to cut my hair that short! The reason I rarely go to salons...I love doing my OWN hair myself! My hair has been through a lot but it is getting there slowly but surely! It's difficult though in the military because I cannot wear it the way I'd like...so it will grow better and more manageable! Well now I am just trying to get it back to a healthy state and thicken up my edges and the cut I had in the back! I love being natural and I wish ALL african american women would understand why and how beautiful they truly are underneath all of that fakeness we tend to be stuck on using! It's cool and everything but don't knock a sistah down for sportin' her beautiful, natural, coily, nappy look! God Blessed us with this beauty and he does NOT make mistakes! So stop trying to fix something that has never been messed up in the first place!!!

**Hair Regimen**
Co-wash 1x/wk
DC 2x/mon with either hair mayo or w/e I am inthe mood to use
Moisturize with Eddies moisturizing growth spray
Condition hair with Shea and Cocoa butter cream
Oil hair with elixir, serum, shea butter oil (w/e I have at hand)

Goals:
~To get hair to its healthiest state! To continue to NOT use any source of heat...haven't used heat since Dec 07'!!
~Grow hair to SL by (haha w/e but maybe by Jan 09')
~To continue to style and care for my own hair
~Put in a PS once I return to states and leave in for 2-3mons
~Grow in thicker edges (Temple) filled in and healthy!
