- Well…hm…I’ve been natural on and off since ’98-99, been loc’d since Sept of 2005, and am enjoying the journey immensely. I’m a Jersey girl residing in NoVA (Northern Virginia), working, living, and loving my life. :)
I began my loc journey at a salon in DC, where I went every month for a re-twisting. At the beginning of 2007 I decided I was going to free-form, so I have a very simple hair care routine. I wash my hair at least once or twice a week and I condition once a week. I primarily wash my hair with a bar of African Black soap, but occasionally I’ll use some Dr. Bronner’s or Burt’s Bee’s. I’ve found that my locs don’t really need much more than water, so I spritz them with water whenever I feel like it (almost once or twice every other day). Sometimes I’ll use some tea tree or jojoba essential oil in them or incorporate a few drops into a water spritz…but that’s becoming more and more of a rarity these days. I like to keep it simple…and apparently my dreads like it that way too.
