Divine Spirals
I had been chemically straightening my hair since the sixth grade (1989), and my mother had been heat pressing it before then...all out of fear of a nappy head. In my family, it is virtually written in stone that nappy hair is "bad hair" and curly or straight hair is "good hair"...that if you have bad hair you have to "fix" it.

One day I decided that this was silly...why should I be uncomfortable with my own natural hair texture? So I stopped getting it chemically straightened in 1999 and cut of all the permanently straightened hair (about 15 inches of it) before the turn of the new millenium.

I have been enjoying and styling my natural ever since then. The photos featured here are my all-natural styles at various lengths, without any coloring, straightening, processing, or hair extensions.
