I was hoping that Cajon Speedway would last forever but that will not be the case. Despite all the hard work by everyone, letter writing, appearances at Council meetings, and media publicity, Cajon Speedway became history at 12:01am on August 16th 2005.
The 50-year lease that the Brucker Family had on the property ran out in the eyes of the County of San Diego and the FAA. Apparently a fight for the final extension was not going to happen in light of the tragedies that have befell the Brucker family lately, namely the deaths of Steve and Doris.
The www.cajonspeedway.com website is no longer online. Bob Gardner has done a terrific job over the years keeping us informed of everything that has gone on at our wonderful race track, but let the website expire. I wish it was still going. There was so much good info on it.
Since a "Final Race Ever" never took place, many people left the track in October 2004 fully anticipating a 2005 racing season. That will never happen now and that is why I have been at the track taking as many pictures as possible from every angle so we can look back at this terrific place. I will group these albums into several categories such as pit slabs, track views, buildings, bleachers, lights, etc. Other people have done excellent jobs of photographing the race cars and drivers, but my concern is the facility itself. I hope you enjoy these and please leave comments if you have some further insight on any of the items. Dave Szalay (619)316-2772
