Well Barack isn't the only one who brought change..but boy oh boy what a change :)!!...Big things have Changed in my life since I last was on this site last...which is officially about a year ago.

My Hubby and I had a baby!!...yay!!...lol..well I had her, but I guess he helped :P....I got pregnant around this time last year, which is right b/4 I started my locks, and life has been amazingly different, and busy...to the point that I only just now realized that I've been locked for a year now :).
Oh and we also moved to Dallas this year too :)

I'm originally from Nigeria. Started this page, so that I could take pics of my hair and learn from other naturals on how to take better care of it. I think I've kinda neglected it for a while.

My journey to natural hair began back in 1999. I had a perm back then, and because of broke-college-student-ness, I had my old roommate put box-perms in my hair whenever I needed a touch up. Needless to say, my hair got over processed, and by the time I could actually afford to go and get it done at a salon, the stylist told me that I had about 5 inches of split-ends.
This was the final straw, and being that my mom had been suggesting that I go natural for several months at this point..I decided right there and then not to get a relaxer again.

The following week, I threw some braids in my hair...I wasn't ready to let go of all that length just yet (even though most of it was dead-ends) then later on, I did some threaded twists, and eventually(about 5-6 months later)...I finally went back to that same salon, and asked her to cut it till she saw my Africa :p...LOL...(I wish) nah, I just asked her to cut the perm off :)
...came back to my apartment after the BIg Chop and my roommate was shocked...I hadn't told anyone what I was doing...I just felt the need to finally let it go. Anyhoo...and thus began my natural hair journey.

It was caused by the neglect & consequent unhealthiness of my relaxed hair, but it has become a statement of style and pretty much a decision to be who I want to be, regardless of who wants me to conform to a "norm" that's not mine!

that's the short story of my hair :)...If I have time I'll scan some old pics, so I can show a hair-timeline :)
