| | Geof Finch Photography | Based in and around Byron Bay, the most easterly point of Australia, I enjoy the challenges of the natural outdoors.
My commercial work involves shooting for various Brochures, Websites, Real Estate billboards, Football (soccer), Surf Groups, Fashion Events, Fashion Labels (various Clothing, Swimwear, Jewelery, and Leather Labels), and a couple of stills shoots for documentary's, and yes, the occasional weddings...
I am also fascinated by nature. I love the power of the ocean, the serenity of the mountains and ever changing clouds which are captured in my landscape images and on display in my public albums.
I prefer to use Canon equipment - a 5D for it's full frame, and it's expanded ISO 50 - 3200, and the sensor's ability to capture great images. I have a secondary Canon 300D for it's lightweight plastic/titanium build. Most of my lenses have been sold off and I prefer to just use a 28-135 f/3.5 IS USM prime lens for portraits and general work. I also carry a spare battery.
Along with a couple of tripods, I use a 550EX Speedlite, and have a Sekonic 308 Light Meter, and Circular Polariser's and an electronic shutter remote. My memory cards are; 2 Sandisk 4GB Extreme III cards for quick download in RAW and JPEG - their capacity to transfer large amounts of data from the Canon 5D (12.8 megapixels at a fast rate without buffer overrun), also have a Transcend 2GB 80x for flash and studio work in RAW. Images are shot in RAW or JPEG and are stored on TDK Gold CD's or DVD and backed up to an external hardrive. I use Sandisk Rescue Pro (recovery program) to find lost or deleted files from CF cards. My cameras and lenses are pushed to the limits. They must be able to withstand constant salt air, salt water, mud, sand, snow, rain (and being accidently dropped). My average day starts by capturing the sunrise and finishes late at night working on images in either Photoshop CS3, Picassa 2, ACDSee Pro Manager, Canon EOS Solutions, or other software programs.
Most of my images have been captured while walking barefoot on rocky foreshores, sandy beaches, wet rainforests, sometimes crawling and swimming in warmer months thru swamp land with snakes and other animals, mountain climbing, and along railway lines - an average of 7 - 8 klms in any direction, and I shoot a couple of hundred images a day. My Canon 300d has clicked approx 100,000 images
I have travelled extensively around the world (46 countries so far and many of them revisiting again 5 - 6 times. I conduct foreign Aid work in Asia, and love to relax by surfing around Byron Bay.
