UPDATES!!! 12/23/08....11 months natural!!!

Can't believe that I have been natural for 8 months already (9-11-08). I have learned alot about my natural hair, but still looking for products that work.

UPDATE 5/11/08

When I first started this site, I didn't know exactly what I was going to do to my hair. I tried to educate myself as much as possible, but I knew it was something that I wanted to do; not as a "trend" but a real commitent. My hair was so damaged, that I actually preferred it short because it would only grow to a certain length ( a lil higher than shoulder length), and I paid like $25 every week to get it done, so I could manage, but I have never been so proud of my hair. I had much confidence in myself that I just cut it all off. And in 4 months, my hair has grown tremendously!!! And it's not all about growth. I have a funky texture, so I don't even bother trying to "distinguish" what type of hair I have, because we ALL KNOW, that our hair is made up of several!! lol. I don't mean to ramble, but I am so excited!

But here was my story.....................................(Jan. 11, 2008)

Well, I have finally decided to go natural!!! For me, I never realized how BEAUTIFUL our natural hair really was!!! I've been thinking about going natural every since my late high school years, but I never knew anyone personally who had natural hair, let alone talk to someone about what it takes to have natural hair.

My hair is very THICK and I have a BIG head (lol) so I always assumed that if my hair was this "nappy" when I have a relaxer, I KNOW it would only be worse if I didn't have one.

While I was attending Morgan State, I was familiar with a couple of sista's who were natural ( but not sporting locks) and it seemed that they were always tugging at it, and it looked VERY dry, and it just added to my negative feelings about maintaining natural hair.

It was until recently (well not that recent lol) that I started seeing sista's with their natural hair and it was so vibrant, and shiny, and beautiful, that I couldn't believe that it was their natural hair!!! I was so excited to see that, but still I did not do anything different about my own hair!!!!

It was only by faith that I came across this site. I've never even heard of it before. And when I started to go through several (well a REAL lot) of the albums, I was so overwhelmed with what I saw, that I began to tear up!!! I knew that it was time for a change.

At this present time, I decided that I was going to blend the two hair types together, because I haven't set a date for the BC!! (I'm really catching on to the lingo here!!!)

But the funny thing about this entire situation, is that I haven't had a full head relaxer since July 2007! ( well i think i did have another one in October) and the sad part is that I did the relaxer myself! In October, I only relaxed the front of my head, (ya'll know what that was about lol). I think I was telling myself that this was something I HAD to do, I just never really listen to my inside voice. NOW I hear it loud and clear!! It's been a long time coming!!

I told a few people that I was going to go natural and they weren't at all negative. A few just asked why I wanted to go natural, (in a casual way, out of curiosity) and just briefly told them so. I wasn't surprised at the comments I received, just happy that they weren't negative!!
