At 13, I thought it was a rite of passage and for my birthday, I had my hair relaxed. I called around to different shops until I found the price and the person I felt most comfortable with and made an appointment. I was satisfied with the results.... Until the summer of 2000, I had enough and wanted to be free from being a slave to the relaxer bottle. My hair was damaged...dry and brittle and just not acting right. I was also tired of spending all of my money and time at the hair salon several times a month. So, after some research, II went to a salon to get it washed, conditioned and chopped off. The funny thing is that a guy whose hair was about the same length as mine was getting his hair braided. He and his hairdresser were looking at me puzzled and kept whispering to each other.. I glanced at them and didn't care!! I just wanted to be free.. Then I got home and didn't know what to do with my hair.. So, I researched and spent a lot of time one a natural hair site that doesn't exist anymore... But it all ended when I got bored and thought that other's opinions were more important than mine and relaxed my hair again. My hairdresser asked my several times if I was sure.. I said I was.. But now, I need a change.. again!

I've been transitioning since July 2008! I've been wearing braids since then...

So, with some apprehension.......and lack of knowledge, I start this process again!! I know there will be some ups and downs. This time I'm counting on all of my sisters here on Fotki to encourage me and help me staff focused on my journey to complete natural health (body, hair, mind and soul)!
