- Hello Everyone (WAVE)!!!!
I finally decided to document my progress as a natural haired gal. I'm not new to the natural game (actually been natural almost all my life). Although I've been natural for a while, I finally decided to get serious about the overall health, look and feel of my hair as of 2008/2009.
Hair Timeline:
- First and last relaxer - 4th grade-Didn't keep it relaxed for long; My mother braided my hair up and helped me transition after my hair began to break.
- 6th grade - Jherri curl. Shortly, I transitioned again.
- 12th grade (Jan. 2002) - Decided to try something different and got a wave nouveau since I was going to college soon. It was beautiful for about 6-7 months. A little bit into my first semester freshman year, my hair began to break!?! (overshedding, too much hair in the comb and sink/tub during washing). I was doing everything right (so I thought)- moisturizing daily, washing frequently, getting it professionally done, trimmed regularly, deep condition etc- but still losing hair. I was fed up; no more chemicals for me.
-In Nov. '02, I decided to transition from a wave nouvea to natural via braids and sometimes cornrows and as of Nov. '04, I've been natural ever since.
-After my transition, I didn't really know how to properly take care of my hair so I kept it braided, twisted or cornrowed (with extensions). When not in extensions, I would wash my hair any kind of way with any shampoo, almost never conditioned/deep conditioned, greased my hair and scalp with whatever, fried my hair with the blowdryer and have it braided again; my hair was very unhealthy.
-When I finally made the decision to manage and care for my hair with TLC, my hair thrived and. I'm looking forward to seeing my progress in the year(s) to come.
