I love my hair.

I couldn't say that for a very long time.

Now I can.

I decided to go natural in 2006 & it was one of the BEST descisions I ever made in my adult life. My natural hair journey was the key to stepping into my queendom & I have to tell you, it's so nice to be here.

Up until I then, I had been a braid & weave addict.

ADDICT y'all.

I didn't know who I was without some type of hair affixed to my head. For real. My hair was brittle, broken off and neglected from over 10 years of micro braids & 20 years of weaves. (Yes! 20 years)

I was tired of :
1. The pressure I put on myself to come up with a new style every other week
2. Spending crazy amounts of $$$ at the hair store
3. My edges getting thinner & thinner month by month
4. Looking in the mirror and NOT knowing who the hell I was
5. The fact that I ONLY felt beautiful and desirable IF my hair was long
6. Attending functions where natural hair wearers were the majority & the weave I was rockin' was the only one in the room.

So one day, I grabbed my scissors and started cutting.

Liberation? Freedom?

Not right away. Try shock & Fear.

I was terrified I had made a terrible mistake. In those first few hours, after I cut of all my hair, my insecurities grew...so I bought a wig and proceeded to rock it for the first 5 months of my napptural journey.

I should have stuck it out & rocked my TWA, afterall, I was lurking on Nappturality & Fotki. But I wasn't ready. It was difficult to see my natural beauty. I kept saying things like 'I don't know what I'm doing with my hair' or 'I'm liable to do anything with my hair next' - leaving the door open to my fake hair addiction.

5 months later I was over it. I was spending more time with my wig off than on. I had hand-in-fro disease bad, plus my hair was growing - FAST!

So one day I...
Snatched off my wig
Stopped lurking on the NP boards
Created a Fotki album
&
Made my presence known

It's been a wonderful journey filled with the love, support & encouragement of my Fotki friends and NP fam.
