My hair is mostly 4a (curl definition when allowed to dry unmanipulated) with a 3c (spiral-shaped curls that hang) texture in the back and 4b texture (fuzzy with z-shaped strands and little or no curl definition) at the sides. My hair strands are thick throughout most of my hair but are fine in the back and sides. My hair is completely natural (no use of any chemicals whatsoever) and has been so for the past four years.

I had my last relaxer in Summer 2003 and transitioned over the next year. All the relaxed ends were gone by Summer 2004 and then I spent the next year cutting off the natural hair that had grown in over the year after my last relaxer b/c it was crispy, discolored, and breaking badly (because I didn't know how to take care of it). I cut off 1/2" to 1" every month for the next year.

By late Spring 2005, I had a fresh head of hair (about 4-6" then) and that is when I started growing my hair (like resolved to stop cutting it and start learning how to care for it). I had a few trims during that time - about 1/2" every few months and then one 2" cut during late 2005. In Spring 2007, I had 16-18" of hair. I currently have about 21" of hair and I have been keeping my hair at that length for a few months now (I think it's the perfect length and 21 is an auspicious number to me). When I get tired of 21", I'll either grow it out more or cut it all off and donate it to Locks of Love. I haven't decided yet, so stay tuned! :-)
