Hair's my story...
I've been on a quest for healthy, strong, LONG hair since March 2007 when I stumbled upon one of the largest Black hair growing forums on the 'net. In 2007 I did nothing but protective style...I didn't use heat, I didn't relax my hair and I didn't trim my hair. I COMPLETELY submerged myself into all things hair growing. I took 1 photo of my hair in 2007, joined Fotki and actively participated on hair forums and Fotki. My starting length was SL.
In 2008 I started off the year with a birthday trip to the stylist and I suffered major breakage (from all of the pulling and ripping she was doing) and a VERY uneven hair cut. At that point I had been on my hair journey for nearly a year - and hadn't been to a stylist in the same amount of time. I also considered myself to be transitioning to natural. It was in 2008 that I decided I would not be visiting the stylist again and called myself getting "serious" about my hair journey.
I ended my transition in July of 2008 after 18 months by relaxing. In spite of the great progress I made in 2008, I ended the year pretty much at the same length I was in February due to me cutting nearly 6" of my hair off between September and December. I was still pretty active on the hair forums in 2008 and during the latter part of that year (September to be exact) I changed my screen name from DenverGirl to LongHairDon'tCare. I also launched my blog with the same name (www.LongHairDontCare.net) and closed my Fotki account...
In 2009 I vowed not to cut my hair at all and I didn't. I introduced henna into my regimen and became less active on the hair forums. I re-registered on Fotki but really didn't do much with it. My hair was still recovering from all of the cutting I did the year prior and I found myself extremely discouraged toward the end of the year and took a brief hiatus from all things hair.
Now, in 2010, nearly 3 years later, I'm just ready to reach my hair goal already so that I can begin enjoying my hair. I decided to get active on Fotki again so I can stay inspired and encouraged to keep this thing going. I have also completely revamped of my regimen. Up until the end of December 2009, my regimen consisted of mostly co-washing and bunning. I've adopted a regimen that is even less manipulative.
My hair at last length check (June 09) is BSL and my ultimate goal is full MBL/natural waist length. I am about 6 inches from that length and at the time I'm writing this, I am 58 weeks post relaxer.
