As of my January, my new hair focus are 2-strand flat twists. I've never been good at doing my own hair. Now that it has some length, 'm ready to play around in it. I've started practicing and creating styles. Check out the pics!!!

Over time my growth has been a slow process. I guess I should have taken my mother's advice on my initial chop. Because I have type 4a/b hair (Type 4a around my edges, especially on the nape of my neck and front bangs; 4b further towards my crown) I must keep my hair in a twisted or braided style at all times or it wont have room to grow.

Because type 4 hair is the kinkiest of the hair types, the scalp needs to constantly be stimulated and the hair elongated to spur growth. I've chosen to braid my hair every night. I never sleep on it loose, unless it has been braided for several days and the crinkle pattern is still there.

I'm changing my wash pattern for the new year:
1. Wash my hair (baking soda) once a month. By the time my head itches and I know its time for a good wash.
2. Co-wash 3 times a month with the change of hair styles.
3. Alternate between Mayo deep conditioning and hot oil treatments as so to mend my dry and sometimes brittle hair.

So my monthly routine will look something like this:
Month A
Week 1: Co-Wash
Week 2: Co-Wash
Week 3: Co-Wash
Week 4: Baking Soda Wash, Deep Co.

Month B
Week 1: Co-Wash
Week 2: Co-Wash
Week 3: Co-Wash
Week 4: Baking Soda Wash, Hot Oil

I haven't decided how February will go, but when I do, I will let you know!!

I did my first blow out since I burned off my hair with the blow dryer a year ago ( I didnt know it got that hot, lol) And I realized, that was the worse thing I could have done before braiding my hair...It was thick and puffy and still wet! But It was nice to see what it looked like. I didnt take pics because I was nakey when I did it. I didnt want to show you all my goodies!

Long time no see Fotki family! A lot has changed including me and my hair. I'm currently engaged! (Whoo-hoo!)

My hair is awesome. I'm still using Cantu (Surprised it lasted this long) but not as often. I only use the Cant Shea Butter Leave-In conditioning Hair Cream when I do a wash-n-go. Wash-n-go's are hard for me because of my type of hair.

My new routine is a shampoo wash every 1-2 weeks. I'm currently finishing my Moisturology shampoo. I'm not a fan. It didn't do anything. I'm transitioning to Organix shampoo and conditioner. They make my hair and my senses feel GREAT.

From there, I plait my hair every night to ensure minimal damage and breakage. It also REALLY helps with management. There is no tangling, and it keeps my coils from being so tight. The next day it makes a great style too.

Also, its been 5 months since I made the commitment not to use a comb or hard bristle brush in my hair. This is made my life easier and my hair happy. She only likes soft bristles on the edges. No combs at all. A lot less breakage, no headache.

In my laziness I've begun to practice my hair wraps. I've gotten pretty good. Some time soon I'll put up new pictures with the different styles I've created.

I spent time this wkn at Mom and Dad's house experiment with my hair. I am very pleased with the Cantu Shea Butter. It was become a staple in my hair routine!

I have yet to find a good hold gel that doesnt flake and zap the little moisture I have in my hair. Right now Im using Lot of Body setting lotion. I grew up on it and works really well for the hold I need when making a bun.

Ive began twisting my hair in smaller twist because it looks better. Since my hair is still kind of short the smaller twists make my twist out look fuller. To keep the twist hold I add to Pantene Pro-V Curl Gel (4) after I finish twisting with Cantu. Its working great.

I need new headband because the little metal part hurts my head. That will be my nxt investment.

Things have been going great! I've posted new photos for the month of April and Ive added my profile pic. That was after BC. My hair looks thin and wiry. It now a lot thicker.

I've been using the Cantu Shea butter coniditioner every time I twist my hair. when I go out I add a little of the heat protecter conditioner to help with the sun from walking around campus.

Shampoo: Mostly Infusium 32 Moistureologie, Because of my hair type (4a), my hair needs a lot of conditioner, this seems to be helping.

Styling: Mostly Lot of body to help with fro holding, Mane N Tail Detangler, and Motions Leave-In Conditioner Spray.

Greetings everyone!

I am a College Sophomore (Soon to be Junior).
My last perm was April 18, 2007
I took the BIG CHOP April 20, 2008
I've been natural every since then.

Unfortunately, I didn't know what I was getting into when I decided to remain natural. I just knew I never liked a relaxer and I never wanted to get one again. So, I had no hair and no guide. I can say in the least, this has been a learning process for me. There have been many changes in my hair and I'm learning a lot thanks to Nicole (shoutout)

So for now, I begin a rebirth date of: March 28, 2009

If I'm going to do it, let's do it right.
