The National award winning Franklin Township Lead the Challenge Softball League is designed to serve the needs of children and young adults with mental and physical challenges who wish to take part in a quality team sports experience. The six-team league plays three games every Sunday from late April through June and features a Franklin Township All-League parade, family picnic/awards followed by Civic League fireworks display, plus many surprises and special events both during and after the season. Previous season events have included ice cream socials and trips to the Indians games. Professional team and player pictures are taken during season.
Who can play? A child or young adult in and around Marion County with a physical or mental challenge who can bring a smiling face and a good attitude, who does not mind getting a little dirty and would enjoy the fun of competitive sports and making new friends. Each player receives a trophy at the end of the season.
Who are Peer Players? These older children and young adults (managers and coaches)play along side the team players (only if they require assistance). They are their buddies for the game and are there strictly for their safety and to enhance the team sport experience. The large majority of Peer Players is made up of student athletes and Honor Roll students from Franklin Central and around Marion County. Many have been with the league since its beginning in 1997. We are very proud of their efforts!
Where do we play? All games are played each Sunday on the grounds of
Wanamaker Elementary on south Post Road in Wanamaker, IN. Two diamonds allow both games to be played simultaneously. The dirt infields mean more action on the ball! A concession stand is open for refreshments during the games.
