Got my FIRST PERM AT AGE 12--or was that my first hair cut. Anyway, my hair hasn't been the same since. 20 yrs. later (2002)...CUT ALL THE PERM OUT!..had 3 inches of natural hair to work with. FREEDOM!! I haven't looked back since. I'm sincerely and truly HAPPY TO BE NAPPY!

NOW, I'M ON THIS LOC JOURNEY! I have wanted locs for so long and knew that I would eventually get them. I just wanted to be sure I was finished trying all the natural styles that I wanted to before doing something as permanent as allowing my hair to lock. I THOUGHT, CONSIDERED, PRAYED and RESEARCHED before making the leap. I had to know what this locking thing was all about. I had to find out about it's history. And what I found out was that LOCKING HAIR PREDATES ANY GROUP OF PEOPLES who might claim it as their own or to whom society might attribute it. People's hair has locked for as long as hair has grown out of man's head. PEOPLE'S HAIR WAS LOCKED IN BIBLICAL TIMES. As part of the vow of the NAZARITE, the person taking the vow wasn't to allow a razor to come to his head. He was to allow the locks of his head to grow. The Nazarite let his hair grow, neglecting his self, dignity and subjecting himself to public shame in order to yield and consecrate totally to God. (For more info, SEE NUMBERS 6) Prior to that, I would think that if Adam and Eve, before eating of the forbidden tree, didn't know or care about the fact that they were naked, they certainly took no thought about the way that their hair was looking! (things that make you go "hmmmmm??"...) :-)
