Malta Gymnastics Federation is affiliated to the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), the European Gymnastics Union (EUG) & the Malta Olympic Committee

Through our mission statement we aim to provide gymnastics opportunities to all ages and levels of ability. We aim to develop gymnastics in Malta from the basic participation, fun and recreational levels through to competitive levels to the highest standards.

Gymnastics has recently been specifically highlighted by the new gospel of sports development – the Long Term Athlete Development model (LTAD) – as one of the core sports that is central to the development of key physical literacy skills that are vital in the development of the all-around sports person, in other words…

Gymnastics covers eight separate disciplines: the GSSE Games disciplines of Women's Artistic, Men's Artistic & Rhythmic gymnastics and four other competitive disciplines: Acrobatic Gymnastics, Aerobic Gymnastics, Disabilities and Gymnastics for All

Rhythmic Gymnastics is the perfect sport to teach body awareness and control - skills that will assist in the development of athletic potential for any sporting endeavor.Femininity and elegance as well as the artistic expression of the gymnasts never fail to fascinate the public.

Rhythmic Gymnasts compete using 5 pieces of apparatus – Rope, Ball, Hoop, Clubs , Ribbon.

Rhythmic Gymnastics:

* Enhances co-ordination and agility, for body awareness and balance
* enhances creativity and builds self-confidence
* Increases flexibility and strength and prepares the body for the life's challenges

Gymnastics for All includes leisure activities for all age groups, in particular in the fields of gymnastics, apparatus gymnastics and team sports. Such activities take into account the various national and cultural particularities.

Gymnastics for All can be characterized as the basis for all kinds of sports. Gymnastics for All is a unique opportunity to promote health and sociability and acts as an important social and cultural factor .

If you are unable to locate a club close to you, call the secretary of Malta Gymnastics Federation and we will try to offer a suitable option.

The Kunsill Malti għall-iSport, in collaboration with the Malta Gymnastics Federation, is launching the Girls on the Move General Gymnastics Pilot Project. The objective of KMS in the Girls on the Move Programme is to increase the opportunities for girls to participate in sports activities in a safe and supportive environment.

The GOM General Gymnastics Pilot Project will start on Saturday 19th July 2008 and end in September 2008. The training sessions will be held on Saturdays between 09.00Hrs – 10.30Hrs at the Girls’ Junior Lyceum (Sir Adrian Dingli) in Pembroke.

Participation in the Pilot Project is free of charge. Applications can be collected from the KMS Head Office at the Cottonera Sports Complex or downloaded from the KMS website www.sportmalta.org.mt For more information send an e-mail to gom@sportmalta.org.mt.
