After years of trusting beauticians and hairstylists, I am trying discover ways to take care of my hair myself. I've left it up to my stylist to take care of my hair for the past 6 years. It was growing beautifully, yet in the last few years, it was becoming thinner and thinner.

She started texturizing the roots in January '06 and it's become shorter and shorter since then. When people see me now, I don't receive the compliments I once did. People are shocked and ask me why I "chopped my hair off." My hair began giving itself a cut which led to aggressive trims. Now, there is no rhyme or reason to my hair...no style. It's lopsided and I can barely pull it into a ponytail or bun. I have to work harder in order for it to "look like something." This is causing havoc on my hair and it has gone from healthy to dull.

I just joined and will be adding pictures shortly. I just recently purchased Ulta Black Hair Growth II as well as read through many fotki pages addressing this subject.

In the next few days, I plan to figure out what my hair type is, try to work out a regime and purchase some quality products to start my 12 month challenge to longer and healthier hair.

***March 2007***

I'm no expert, but this is what I did in February:

-- PrePoo with mixture of Mizanti Moisturfuse, EVOO, 1 egg. Sit with plastic cap for about 20 minutes.

-- Shampoo with NTM (although this month, I going back to an old favorite, Creme of Nature. I used this during my pre-relaxer days - about 8 years ago.)

-- Condition with Nexxus Humectress. Sit under dryer with plastic cap for about 20 minutes.

-- Air Dry and moisturize with ORS Olive Oil and EVOO.

-- Twist and tie down or roller set.

-- I've also been doing the baggie method (Moisturizing ponytail and covering with platic bag.

--This month I plan to step up on the protective styles.

***April 2007***

This month I became very lazy due to traveling and working 7 days a week. I've had my hair professionally done every two weeks. My stylist used a protein treatment that helped with the breakage. She won't tell me what brand it is...I suspect Aphogee since it smells really badly. I am still moisturizing with ORS Olive Oil and wearing protective styles. My hair has really thickened up and it looks healthier. I can't say that it has grown much, but it is definitely healthier. I'm glad I'm documenting because pictures don't lie. I'll be updating pics soon.
