Hello fotki friends. I would love to hear someone actually pronounce "Fotki", I have no idea if I'm saying it right. Anyway, I am hear to document my healthy hair journey.

Hair History:

I was always natural until age 10. I usually wore my hair in braids, cornrows, and presses occasionally. I remember the smell of burnt hair and that nasty tar stained looking comb. I always dreaded getting my hair pressed. At age 10 my mom decided to let my aunt give me my 1st relaxer. I thought I was the baddest 10 year old that walked the planet. My hair was soft silky, and about APL. Yep...could not tell me a thing...I had just turned 10 too...Shoot! I was F.L.Y. I kind of got lucky b/c I basically got my hair done every 2 weeks for free. Well I never had to pay (not really sure how my mom and aunt worked that out) but as soon as I got old enough (got my first job at age 12) I had to pay $20 every 2 weeks to get my hair done, which really wasn't bad at all. My aunt did keep my hair in great condition, throughout my school years I always received compliments on my hair. When I was in the 7th grade I got braids and fell in love with how much growth I got. I stayed in braids the entire school year. My hair was BSL by the time I reached 8th grade. When I got to High School, I kept my hair long.........................................

Until I decided to get glue in tracks (SUCH A DUMB IDEA) who ever thought of putting glue on your scalp should be sued, and slapped by every black woman on this rotating ball. No one put a gun to my head but I was young and stupid, following others which I would never follow others for anything now. Sad to say, I neglected my hair, I did nothing but treat the weave like it was my real hair. When I took that stupid glue out, my hair came out with it!! I remember crying all night long over my hair. The next day I did not go to school, I went to my aunts salon instead and she cut my hair into a nice bob.

I liked my hair in the bob and kept it that way until senior year. My hair started growing really good. By the time of the end of my freshman year in college my hair was back to APL. Not sure if it was the stress of real life, my asshole of a man back then, my dramatic weightloss, or greensboro, NC hard water, but something reck havoc on my hair. So I then cut it back to CL and proceeded to let it grow.

I started modeling in 2006 and that lead to a emerging addiction to wigs. There was no way I was doing glue weaves again, I had a sew in or 2 all done by me. I began to make my own half wigs. I began to notice how my hair would grow when I wore wigs constantly............finally the light bulb when off.

I thought about doing my own sew-in for a upcoming shoot, and began searching the internet for braid patterns. I was lead the weave section of BHM and somehow found my way to the growth section. After finding out so much information, I joined every hair forum, and read every article I could. I started my journey in Dec of 2007 (well that when I signed up). Completed my first 12 week relaxer stretch, and learned alot about my hair.

After extensive research I realized how much harm I was doing to my body with chemicals, I also realized that the female I had been looking at in the mirror was not me. So in April 2008 I made my decision to transition to natural hair, I have no idea how to take care of it, what it will look like, or even if I will look okay with it. But I want to be true to myself. I really can not explain it.

My ultimate goal is to have long natual hair that TBL when stretched!!!
