I got my first relaxer at 11 years old. I grew it out but did not take good care of my hair during the process so I ended up with the ragged ends look on my long hair that was very unattractive. I got another fresh cut and relaxer at 17. I loved it. My hair was very healthy but over the years I wondered what my real texture was like...I was inspired by alot of natural heads. What really prompted me to cut all my hair off and start all over was becoming a new mother and not really having the time or money to keep up my long relaxed hair. So on January 27, 2007. I went to get a professional bc after I had my mother cut my hair til I only had about 6 inches of hair or less left. I love my natural hair but sometimes me and my hair don't get along. We have our good and bad days. I am still learning my natural hair but I will have it down to a science in due time.

My hair routine: August 2009

I have been going through changes with my hair because I needed to figure out a way to style it so it will last a few days to a week because I grew tired of wetting my hair and the dripping drives me insane!! Anyhoo, I have been into ayurvedic herbs and I am pacing myself :) So far I have tried henna, amla and shikakai to cleanse...I love henna and shikakai! I may have to revisit amla some other time to see if I can make it work for me...So far I have been using Giovanni50/50 Hydrating/Clarifying poo to shampoo with but I really like Shikakai as a truly natural alternative...I may use it once a month or bi-weekly from now on...I looooved the softness and the bounciness! Loooove Curljunkie's Coffee Coco Curl Creme and the Smoothing gellie for my twists! I also deep treat with a mixture of PR&N deep cond. mask, Aubrey HSR, and olive oil and honey..Sometimes I add the olive oil(can't remember brand) conditioner paks to this mix and it's been working perfectly for me...Also, I just used Amla oil for the first time as a pre-poo or pre-Shikakai treatment...I applied it to my scalp and hair, wrapped my hair up and let it sit for over an hour...After I cleansed with the Shikakai and proceeded to add deep conditioner I noticed my hair was still a little oily from the amla oil ( I used too much) but it looked and felt clean and moisturized...I plan to henna in a few days anyway but that's pretty much it...I will let y'all know how I like Qhemet Amla/Olive Heavy Cream soon as I get it in the mail! It shipped Friday so I should be getting it today! I will be updating soon since I changed my regimen a little and decided to experiment more as far as styling but for now I'm stickin' to my twistouts :) I might tweek my regimen again because I decided to just monitor my hair in order to decide what it needs rather than just doing it because I'm told I should wash every week...Don't want to over work my hair and I think simplicity is the key but I will still keep my henna and shikakai in my regimen!
