I BC'd on 10-Jun-09 and decided to grow out my hair for the first time in my adult life. Thanks to the wonderful ladies on the hair boards, I feel much more confident in this journey. Here goes nothing...
REGIMEN:
I'm usually in some sort of protective style (95% of the time). I don't like to have my hair loose for long periods of time (more than a couple of days). It's either in individual braids/twists with or without extensions or in cornrows underneath wigs/headwraps/hats.
***In warmer weather (done in braids/cornrows)
-water rinse or cowash daily
-Moisturize daily (w/mostly water + condish + couple drops of oil in spray bottle.
-wear a men's satin skull cap daily (to sleep and most times around the house)
-Poo wash once a week (w/sulfate free cleanser)
-DC (protein followed by moisture) at least once a week following wash
***In cooler weather (done in braids/cornrows)
-Water rinse or cowash once or twice a week
-Moisturize daily (w/spray mix of 1/2 condish, 1/4 oil and 1/4 water)
-Wear a men's satin skull cap daily (to sleep, around the house always and underneath wigs/headwraps/hats)
-Poo wash once a week (w/sulfate free cleanser)
-DC (protein followed by moisture) at least once a week following wash
***In extensions (3-4 weeks at a time)
-Spray daily (or twice a day) w/braid spray mix (mostly water + a blob of condish + 1/3 Infusium 23 + 10 drops of peppermint oil + one squirt of oil and maybe a little sulfur or nettle powder for growth).
-Clarify and DC upon take down
Staples:
Poo-
Suave Daily Clarifying poo (after extensions, before heat, or once per 2-3 months) <--seeking a natural alternative
A little Shakakai and Neem powders, oils and mostly water mixed into some Suave Tropical Coconut condish.
Condish-
Suave Tropical Coconut (coneless)
Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition (coneless) <-- used when styling
Both mixed w/a little Brahmi and other powders (Bhringaraj, Henna, Amla, Hibiscus or Cassia) and oils as a gloss (used to cowash)
Aussie Moist or Tressamme Moisture Rich (cones)<-- used when heat styling or used to "seal" in the summer instead of oil.
Daily Moisturizing-
Suave TC + oil + water spray. Seal w/a little more oil or Vaseline on the ends (at night).
Oils-
EVOO
Grapeseed Oil
Safflower Oil
EO's (peppermint, lavender and orange/grapefruit)
Moisturizing DC-
Queen Helene Cholesterol +EVOO + sea salt (sometimes + Hibiscus)
Protein TX-
Motions CPR (In the bottle, weekly lite protein)
Henna/Amla mix (usually after extensions)
1 Egg + 3-4 blobs of full fat yogurt + Moisturizing DC mix
