So it has only been one year of really getting to know my hair. And now I am in love! It has been a very rocky relationship but we are now passed the dating phase! LOL
I'm starting to put photos up. I have so many so it will take a while. I started the Nappy Journey not by choice but by necessity. I have always admired ladies who "rocked naturals" but I didn't think I had the nerves to do it. I would always say I wish I could go natural but I would then touch my hair and say "NO WAY!"
But as they say be careful what you wish for!! It has been 2 years and 8 months of NappyBeauty living. I have been natural almost 3 years. Now it has not been an easy journey! In the beginning all I talked about was my hair and some days I didn't want to leave the house. So to all of you that willingly went natural my hat's off to you. I did not do the "big chop" (BC) as many before me have done but I transition under braids. It worked for me. Each visit to the salon for a new style I would get my permed hair cut off little by little. My hair was such a mental part of me.
Then one day I just decided enough was enough, it was time for me to face my nappy hair fear head on. I told my stylist okay, let's do twist and I will wear them out of here! That was big for me. I had to adjust to seeing myself in the mirror as an adult with twist and not a little girl with plaits on her head. Now for the first 6 months of wearing my natural hair, I stayed in my stylist chair. Sometimes I had 2 appointments in one week (LOL). Now to say I was a little scared is an understandment. But my stylist was the best she encouraged me and worked with me. She was natural as well.
Finally, I relaxed and owned my beautiful nappy, kinky, unruly wonderfully made in God image HAIR!!!!!!!! Come along for my NAPPY JOURNEY, it promises to be fun. Thanks to all of the ladies of Fotki, your pictures are lovely.
