I've had natural hair for the majority of my life.

I started joining hair boards in Nov 06. although I skimmed lightly for about 6 months prior.

Although I was natural i hated my hair and often put a front that i was proud of my hair texture.

about 2 months into joining i saw a post on Just for me Texture softener. the girls on the box hair looked so pretty. I was told that I could not have curls without using a texturizer by a stylist a few months earlier so this seemed like a solution to my want of pretty hair. I literally bought it the next day.

The texture softener was a flop but i loved it. Anything was better than my nappy,ugly,hair. so i had wavy loose curls for a while. it was so easy to comb. so easy to pull back and it always looked good. at least i thought so then.


a few months later i noticed my hair was not looking and nice as it did before. my new growth was coming in. although it wasn't noticeably ruining my hair style or causing me much difficulty, i felt like i HAD to touch up my hair. i began to count the days to my next touch up. I was anxious about removing the ugly naps that where coming from my scalp.

when touch up time came i was so anxious! i worried about overlapping,protecting the ends, protein, moisture and not over processing so my curls dont come out too loose. It was the most awful train of thoughts and I hated it. after my touch up i decided not to use it again.

so after a rough 10 month transition i cut it off very short in jan 08. i never had hair that short. i didnt really know how to take care of my hair properly. most days i slathered gel on my hair and kept it movin. so i did that with my natural hair. i just slathered gel on and kept on moving.

I became frustrated that my hair didnt look like anyone on the forums hair. not did my hair react the way with certain products. it was dull,frizzy and kinky. no loose curls and ringlets. I still longed for the curls on that texture softener box.

I noticed that it was people with silky hair that i most envied. and so i sought out a way to make my hair like so. this led me to eye upon the chemicals again. i had just left my home forum and went to lhcf. there were so many ladies with long texturized hair.i thought, maybe if i only leave it on for 5 mins i can get the silkiness but still keep my curl.

I was WRONG. my hair was so unnaturally dry. i could not bear to touch it. it felt like steel wool, velcro and brillo combined. I had to transition AGAIN.

fast forward 8 months. out of frustration i bc in dec 08. my hair still is not curly or ringlety but at this point im willing to settle. im still dissatisfied with the texture of my hair.

For a while i still felt inferior because my curls are not silky, my hair is a bit dull. my hair can't do "tricks" like get all wavy under the shower head or become straight when pulled in a pony tail.


But after fixing my regimen, im really beginning to see the beauty in my hair. no its still not curl and ringlety nor does it do tricks but its mine and it will always be growing from my scalp no matter what external treatments i try not r how much MSM and silica i can scarf down a day to try and change my hair texture. I still havent 100% excepted it. its like 90%. I'm still hoping more length will help with that. but I think ive progressed in my thinking and im really happy about that.


update 12/2009
i decided to get a bkt. alot of thought and research went into to this decision. I would have stayed 100% natural if I could find a non chemical way to manage my hair easily or at least with less difficulty than i was facing. frankly my hair has been stressing me out to the point where sometimes i want to cry. now just thinking about having to deal with my unadultarated hair gives me a shudder. it is something i currently do not want to deal with unless i start wearing weaves and wigs 100% of the time. I will go back eventually. i just plan on bkting to get length and eventually stop. hopefully by then i iwll have someone who can help me manage my hair be cause to *ME* it is not very managable unless like i said i am going to wear weaves and wigs 100% of the time or spend 3 hours on some twists that last only 4 days.
