When I was younger I was trained into thinking that straight or chemically permed hair was best. So for years I sat in my grandmother's kitchen and got my hair pressed and eventually chemically relaxed.

After many, many, many, many years of chemical abuse, I made up my mind and turned my back on chemicals and cut off 8 - 9 inches of permed hair (yup I had shoulder length hair/almost BSL and cut it all off....talk about dedication!!). What was left on my head was approximately 1 inch of cottony soft, kinky, curly napps.

But I wasn't completely free....I relapsed and applied a texturizer to my hair. What was I thinking??? Although I suffered no real damage from the text....I nixed that too and eventually cut the text out of my hair slowly. Now I'm working with my God given natural hair.

I wore my hair is TWA's, twist-outs, braids, etc for a little over 2 years. Sometime in late 2008, I decided to flat iron my natural hair...BIG MISTAKE!!! The flat iron was up way too high and when I washed my hair I noticed alot of straight ends that would not revert. I can testify that flat iron heat damage is alive and it's REAL!!! I wound up having to cut alot of the hair that I'd worked so hard to grow...

I left my hair alone to heal for a period of 4 months...nothing but co-washes, plenty of vitamins, water, deep conditioning and simple styling (twist-outs and shake and go's). During this time frame i came upon 2 sistah's with sisterlocks (was it a coincidence)...I don't know, but I started researching.

I finally took the leap and was Sisterlocked on June 6th, 2009 after 20 hours...yes, 20 hours. My hair is growing, it's revitalized and I'm loving my hair!

To all my natural sistah's:
Wear your Afro's, shake 'n go's, twists, braids, coils, loc's with pride!!!
Don't allow your natural journey to be soiled by those who don't understand.

BE NAPPY, BE NATURAL AND BE PROUD!!!!
