- March 31, 2007, I cut my hair down from 12 to 1.5 inches. Why? I was sick of relaxed hair and wanted to grow out my natural texture. Over a year later, I can't believe I spent four years straightening my hair with damaging chemicals. My hair now is healthier, and in turn looks better and is easier to care for. There's so much more versatility with highly textured hair. I wish everyone could just embrace what they naturally have.
My regimen: The K.I.S.S. principle and DIY. I'm not interested in wasting my life or money away on my hair (reason 3,459 why I stopped relaxing). I rinse my hair every day, because water is your friend, and oil my ends. I condition once a week on average, and shampoo only once or twice a month. I detangle my hair with a Denman brush only once a week, while it's soaking wet and drenched with conditioner. This takes only about half an hour to an hour. At night, I put my hair in a bun and sleep on a satin pillow case. In the morning, I rinse, which more-or-less revives my hair; it gets less defined each day, but is still perfectly presentable. In the winter, I keep my hair in a protective style most of the time, still rinsing daily; I wear them less once the temperature was consistently in the 50s. I fully admit to being a freak who measures her hair, but I only do it once at the end of each month. I also never use any heat on my hair - I don't care to take a risk, no matter how small, of screwing up my hair; and, quite frankly, straight hair is boring to me now. I trim whenever I feel my hair needs it.
NOTE: I got sick of sucking at Japanese...so for the next three months (at least), I'm cutting out as much English stuff as I can. I'll check my e-mail, check for comments, and glance at Nappturality and Happy Curls only once during the week. I'll still update my Fotki during this time, but otherwise I won't be doing much posting.
