Thank you stopping by and visiting my album. I’m here to document my progress on my quest for healthier, stronger & longer hair! I’ve never had long hair or even healthy before. I used to think that my 4a/b type hair could not grow past my shoulders. Over the past 3 years, I’ve gained so much knowledge on how to properly take care of my hair and retain the length which equals growth. I hope to one day inspire someone by my progress and help them believe that yes, black hair IS beautiful and that it can grow long too!

My Current Regimen:

*Relax hair every 3-4 months with a no-lye relaxer.

*I always air dry my hair.

*I only comb my hair on wash days and that’s just to detangle my hair after deep conditioning.

*I don’t use brushes.

*I limit the use of direct heat (flat-iron, blowdryer, curling irons, etc) for only special occasions. When using direct heat, I make sure that I use a thermal protectant.

*I always wear a satin/silk scarf to bed to protect my hair.

*I moisturize daily.

*Trim my hair as NEEDED.

*Clarify/Chelate hair 2 times a month.

*Use a hardcore protein treatment every 4-6 weeks followed by a moisturizing conditioner.

*I pre-poo w/every wash. I believe pre-pooing is very important because it helps protect the hair from harsh cleansing agents that our found in shampoo and it nourishes the hair and scalp. I use alma, olive or Meadowfoam oil on dry hair for my pre-poo for 30-60 mins. You can also use conditioner mixed with oil or just conditioner alone.

*Wash & Deep Condition every 3 days rotating between a protein conditioner and a moisturizing one to keep my hair balanced. When washing my hair, I make sure that my hair is straight back. I never bunch & scrunch up my hair like you see on those shampoo commercials because by doing that, you are asking for major tangles. I always use a moisturizing shampoo that does not contain SLS or ALS as cleansing agents..

*I deep condition my hair with a plastic cap and sit under my bonnet dryer for 30 minutes or sometimes I just put on a plastic cap and leave it for an hour without heat. After deep conditioning, I detangle my hair under running water in the shower with a wide tooth comb and rinse thoroughly with warm water. In the summer time, I like to rinse with cold water because it closes the hair cuticle and traps some of the conditioner inside of the hair. It also produces a nice shine.

*After I’m done washing, I wrap my hair in a towel to soak up the excess water and then apply a leave-in, moisturizer and seal my ends with oil. I allow my hair to air dry a little bit and then I put my hair in a ponytail and then I place a little baggy over the ends and tie an ouchless ponytail holder around the baggy to prevent it from coming off. Once my hair is in a baggy, I tie my hair up with a silk or satin scarf and then place a bonnet on top of that and I’m done until the next wash

*As for how I wear my hair on a daily basis, I put a phony pony over the baggy or a bun cover. I have all different color bun covers that I use to hide my baggie. Sometimes I wear my hair in just a regular ol’ bun when I want to change it up a little. Boring yes, but it keeps my ends moisturized and in good shape. In the future, I am going to explore different protective styles but for now, I’m going to stick with my routine.
