I first rid my hair of the relaxer in December 2006 and it was the best decision I had ever made. I started with a TWA and in just a year and half, my hair made it past my shoulders. It wasn't easy. I dealt with constant rejection and people not understanding why I would want my hair natural. But at the same time, there were so many women who came to me and genuinely inquired about going natural and people just telling me how beautiful my hair was.

In May 2008, like an idiot, I relaxed it again, for the dumbest reason ever--so that my hair would fit under my graduation cap. There must have been some subconscious reason as to why I used this is an excuse. But I did it and my hair just gradually became more and more unhealthy until I reached the point I did today, June 28, 2009. I chopped it all off. I'm starting afresh and I'm not looking back. Its a little discouraging when I think of where my hair could have been had I kept my natural hair, but what's done is done. I can only move forward now , and I'm excited about the journey!
