Hello all,

I'm Mavis, QVCDiva on naturallycurly.com.

My other aliases are NCChemist (twitter) and TarheelChemist (youtube - don't have any vids but love watching other curlies videos). Both are an ode to my worklife, home state, and undergrad alma mater.

I'm here to share my third natural hair journey.

I had planned to do this again but it wasn't supposed to be until January 2011, my 50th birthday. It was to be my present to myself, but many factors, motivated me to go ahead and start the process in 2008. So, on September 19, 2008, I had my last relaxer.

I transistioned for 4 months before I BC'd. Was actually planning to do a long transition as with time number 2, but got up one weekend in January and decided it was time. Called my old hairdresser the next day, Monday, and made an appt for that Friday. So, on Jan. 30, 2009, I became completely natural for the 3rd time and here, being natural, is where I plan to stay.

Even though I've done this before (1994-1998, 1999-2003), it's still a journey with many ups and downs. And while I'm much stronger now than I was then, I know there will still be some tough moments. Anyway, thankful that there is so much more info and support available now than even six years ago.

I'm definitely glad I decided to do this ahead of schedule. Now when I hit the big 50, I'll already have a beautiful head of natural hair.
