- People in my family often described me as "wondering". I think this was partially because I never seemed to know what look I wanted to go with. I would cut my relaxed hair short one week then two weeks later have a blonde weave down my back. Two weeks after I would be sporting a curly wig. I just was not capable of commmitting to a style.
Then one day last July I met a girl who had the cutest mini fro. I asked her about it and she didn't give me too much detail but she told me natural hair was almost like a secret society that I could be a part of if I just did a little online research. I thought to myself 'who has time for that?' and the funny thing is that I had tried to be a part of this society (minus the research) just months before and it was a total disaster. I had tried to transition my hair through wearing weaves and wigs but once the wigs came off I had no idea what to do with that nappy dry mess underneath. I couldn't comb it, and it didn't seem to be getting any more moist from the grease I put on it. I felt like I had no choice but to get it relaxed. After my conversation with this girl my curiousity peaked but it wasn't until I started a new job a few months later and met several women with this gorgeous nappy and locked hair that I realized that I had been handeling my hair all wrong...One sistah gave me several websites (my favorite was motowngirl.com) that I could go to and view natural hair as well as learn how to take care of it....You see that was the missing link. I had no idea what to do with my natural hair. All I knew was the relaxer...
So anyway here I am. As of today I have been wearing my hair natural for almost 4 months and I love it. It seems to really be growing. I have never had long hair and I am very curious to see how long it will get but in the meantime I am enjoying this self-discovery. I am learning so much about myself through my naps and I love it! And as of right now I seem to be content without the weaves and wigs that I had once held so dear...Yay for me!! - General Information
