I have always LOVED hair, so you can imagine my distress when I began losing my hair about 6 years ago. After the birth of my 3rd child my hair began falling out, this did not happen with my other 2 kids. What did I decide to do?? Weave it up, like an idiot, why did my hairdresser go along with me??? I weaved on and off for the next 3.5 years (mostly on, lol).During this time I went to the Dermatologists and was diagnosed with genetic hair loss. In May 2007 I took the weave out to have a follow up with the dermatologist, what I found was hair that was even more damaged than when I first started with the weave. What began as a 2 week rest period before the next weave finished with some serious contemplation, and I decided that I would take matters into my own hands and start dealing with my own hair. I really am "Selfstyled"- I do EVERYTHING myself, no salons ever.

My Hair Profile: My hair is naturally coarse, and the actual strands are quite thick and strong and resilient. My hair is low in porosity, which means that my cuticles are closed really really tight, and my hair will never be processed bone straight with a relaxer.I have one patch in the back of my head that is extremely resistant to relaxers. Coarse hair and all, I stick with Regular strength relaxers. My hair is texlaxed but will straighten nicely with a roller set or flat iron. My hair only appears thin because I have low density.

Regimen:

I wash every 5 days. First Lather is with CON Green, second lather is with my Jojoba Hair One. If I feel like I have build up I will do one lather with a sulfate poo. I clarify monthly with Nexxus Aloe Rid

I DC with Heat for 20-30 minutes

DC's I rotate are:
Silk Elements Moisturizing Treatment,Aussie 3 minute Miracle,Aubrey's Organics HoneySuckle Rose,Yes To Carrotts Mask
Lustrasilk Olive Oil Cholesterol, Silicon Mix

Leave in: Redken Smooth Down, followed with Fantasia Frizz Buster Serum.

For drying:I apply my silk scarf around my edges and pin the back up and sit under the dryer for 35 minutes, after that, I apply heat protectant , and flat iron with with my Solia. I use it on 320 degrees and do one pass. The point is to smooth the cuticle, not have super straight hair. If I dont flat iron I rollerset.

I moisturize once or twice a day with Sea Spa Cocoa Butter body cream. I have never been able to find a commercial hair moisturizer with good ingredients, so I started using body creams about a year ago. As long as the 1st ingredient is water - you are good to go IMO, provided that the rest of the ingredients are good.

I seal my ends with Moroccan Oil- as needed

I "grease" my scalp with Castor Oil 2x a week, hairline daily. I thin the CO out with olive oil, or carrot oil, so that it is thinner and easier to use.

I always tie my hair up with a silk scarf at night for bed.

I don't brush and mostly finger comb. I will do a good detangle with a shower comb on wash days

Protein treatments are light, usually I will use Aphogee 2 min reconstructor every other week, or Silk Elements Mayo

Take a Hair/Skin/Nails Vitamin
Take a prescribed DHT blocker.
Touch up at 8-10 weeks.

I use a rinse every about every 4-5 weeks. I use Colorshowers in Black. When my rinse is starting to fade, I DC for 20 minutes with Aveda Black Malva conditioner, then add something more moisturizing for another 10 minutes. The Aveda conditioner is all natural and black/purplish in color, and will keep your hair black and shiny. I have found a way to keep my hair black without constantly using rinses.
