I did the big chop in August 03'. I didn't transition or anything..I just cut all my hair off (to about 1/4 of an inch).
I have coily, S pattern, fine hair. It shrinks ALOT but I think that's awesome.
I'm a new vegetarian (as of May 2005) and I did that cold turkey (pardon the pun). I just didn't have the desire for meat anymore and I was horrified when I saw this dateline episode about animal abuse, So that was it for me...
