this album documents my hair journey...

In December 2002, I decided to chop my relaxed bra strap length hair...I wanted to see and feel my natural hair.

My journey to natural hair, taught me a great deal about myself and the importance of patience and self care. I became more intrigued about hair care. After years of being relaxed, cutting my hair and going natural, the process taught me about maintaining the health of my hair. I loved my natural journey and who knows, I will probably go natural again in my hair journey. I started documenting my natural hair journey a few months before I decided to relax again.

Fast forward 4 years later, After 4 years of being natural, I made the decision to relax my hair again...after much contemplation, I decided, I wanted a change...

Regimine and Products

I pre-poo or deep condition on the weekend while doing chores.
pre-poo/deep conditon: NTM (neutrogena triple moisture) mask, or homemade mixture of shea butter and oils.

Shampoo: Kenra MC or NTM. I only shampoo once, very thoroughly. There are times when I only do a conditoner wash, if wearing hair in a wash and go.

Conditoner: Kenra MC or NTM. I love love Kenra, I think it's the best for moisturizing, however, I don't think it's the best detangler (I'm still looking for a conditoner that detangles my hair).

Leave-in depends on my mood: NTM leave-in, Trader Joe's mositure or essential conditoner, paul mittchel the "conditoner" ( I really like this one)

Oil: Started using Castor Oil...I like using this on my ends....My other new favorite oil....Jamacian Mango and Lime hair oil, love the smell and feel (a little goes a long way, and I do mean a little)... Olive oil, Keracare essential oil, mixture of essential oils (rosemary, ylang, ylang, lavendar, pepermint or tea tree) added to shampoo, conditioner or moisturizer...

moisture: NTM leave in

Protein treatment: Aphogee 2 minute reconstructor or ORS

Clarify: Apple cider vinegar rinse....looking for a shampoo that clarifys without stripping....any suggestions?

Regimen

Wash: depends on my mood 1-2X a week, deep condition on the weekends..
If it's a planned wash (on the weekend) I usually section hair into 6-8 sections (braided), dampen, apply pre-poo treatment. Rinse out, and then shampoo. Apply conditioner for 5 minutes while combing through each section (because of my multiple textures detangling for me is a chore sometimes, so I need to go in prepared!)

I then rinse and apply leave in to each section with a bit of oil and prepare for roller set. Set hair for about 1 1/2 hours under the dryer and pincurl. Sometimes, if home all day, I will leave rollers in hair and airdry.

Sometimes, I will wash and go (pony or no pony) for curly style.

If wearing hair curly...I wet every morning and apply a dab of conditoner and moisutrizer. I rinse with cold water if wearing curly, I find it defines my curls.

Combing: trying to decrease the amount of combing I do, currently once a day.

hairstyles: bun, pinned up, roller set, wash and go (curly), or straight and loose, it depends on my mood, most of the time, it's pinned up or in a bun, but I like wearing it down too!

when sleeping: usually pincurl with satin-cap, wrap in a doobie (once in a blue moon). or I wear my hair loose and sleep on my satin pillowcase . Sometimes I sleep with a showercap, conditioner and oil for overnight treatment.

protein treatment: fine hair, so after relaxer, I do it once a week for about 2 weeks, then do protein treatment every 3-4 weeks or so.

Relaxer: Desingn Essentials with shea butter: I am still left with slight curl pattern. I get my hair relaxed about every 10 weeks...sometimes I try streching, but I realize due to my multiple textures, my hair ends up breaking due to the way I handle it...I have yet to stretch past 12 weeks...it causes too much damage for me.

My hair dresser does not comb the relaxer through. Although I have a lot of hair, I have very fine hair, so relaxing my hair bone straight is not a good idea!...the result my hair has multiple textures, curly, straight you name it...so I guess you can call it telaxed. I go to the hair dress about once a month....

Hair type: 4a in the back, 4b everywhere else, fine hair, lots and lots of strands

concern: shedding...I always seem to shed hair...damn! don't seem to understand why, but my hair continues to grow despite shedding...no breakage thank goodness

vitamins: Centrum chewable...nothing special, ohhh...I do juice fruits and vegies 1-2 times a week

goal: brastrap length hair, healthy and shiny hair with body and movement. after I reach this goal...not sure after that!

prodcuts I want to try: Elucence, keracare (shampoo and conditoner), salerm and/or lacio lacio
