Wow, I can not believe it's going to be 3 years since my last relaxer in April! I never thought I would last half this long!! Of course, it's been difficult, but I have a good feeling that this summer I will have the best time with my kinky curls :-)

I have also found support and love in my gel products. Had it not been for them, I would have probably settled with a texlaxer, or something similar. Gel has allowed me to style my hair, and also to keep it from frizzing too much. Such a help! :-)

Background info:

My mother is Black (not sure what part of Africa my family is from), and my father is from Puerto Rico(which contains various mixtures of many races in itself; please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_Rico#Demographics ). My hair is a reflection of my diversity, but clearly leans towards an afro-texture.

I got my 1st relaxer @ age 11, and relaxed my hair once or twice a year there after until April 2006. Started transitioning (stopped using a relaxer) April/May 2006, when I had my last relaxer. I finally BC'd (did the Big Chop) in the summer of 2007 (August, days before my 25th b-day). It was very gradual, because I kept snipping away, and then just let go of those relaxed ends. I am now officially 100% natural.
