Hello- Thank you for visiting my hair album. I am on a simple quest to gain healthy relaxed hair after leaving my stylist.

WARNING...LONG STORY...LOL

In 2003, my hair broke off in the back due to an unexpected pregnancy related bed rest. I was in a hospital with no scarf or hair tools...the only thing I thought about was keeping my little baby inside. So, my hair suffered tremendously. It was so bad that a nice nurse called her friend to braid my hair for me. Yep...thank God for Angels. Once I got home with the baby, I went back to my old beautician(BTW was MIA when I asked her to help me with my hair before I left the hospital:-/ ) who was the perfectionist pixie cut stylist and weaver. She saw me and couldn't believe how the back was so broken compared to the rest of my hair, since the last time she saw me. Anyhow, we began the weaving process to grow my above ear length hair back. The words 'healthy hair' was never brought into our conversations. I knew better because I had discovered LHCF but just automatically thought my stylist knew how to really take care of my hair.

I was paying $150 a month to a licensed cosmetologist for a beautiful weave but my actual hair was in an unecessary horrible state. Check out my 2005 pics...LOL She never taught me how to take care of my hair under the weave. When I told her I wanted my hair to look better and grow underneath the weave, she told me I would have to wear it short because that's the only way black womens' hair could be at it's healthiest. Well, needless to say, that was my last visit. LOL

I decided to take matters into my own hands. I had long, healthy, natural hair as a child and teenager and I just knew she was wrong.

On my journey, I realize the more you truly take care of your hair, the healthier it becomes and it grows. I "think" I will focus on transistioning once I hit BSL. Here is my trial and error...

On a daily basis:

*I airdry and normally wear my hair pinned up or in a bun.

*I moisturize then seal my ends with Castor or Coconut Oil.

(My daily summer moisturizer is homemade. It's a mixture of rose water, coconut or olive oil, glycerin and random EOs. )

*ALWAYS PRAYING HARD FOR CHANGE

*Drink 16-20 glasses of water per day (I love water!)


Now, the complicated stuff: LOL

*Pre-CW treatment 2x a week with any oil mixed with conditioner(length of time varies on my mood)

*CW at least every other day

*clarify 1x a week with ACV or baking soda rinse

*Deep Condition at least 4x a month

*HEAVY Protein Condition 2x a year

*My leave ins vary from homemade concoctions to strore bought items.

* Shower Combs only...what's a brush????

*Vitamins: MSM, Biotin, Centrum Daily, Vitamin E, B-6 (I am not consistent with my vitamins...If anything I really need to remember to take my Centrum.)






Something else I am working on is my body. I am trying to lose body fat and build muscle simultaneously. This is a very challenging process and never really put this much thought into losing weight in my entire life. I've always lost 10 or 15 lbs and called it a day. However, after having children and not respecting my Temple, I am a little too thick...overweight... So, this is another journey I am taking.

***SIGH*** I was so motivated. ***SIGH*** I am getting back there.

*PRAY
*LOOK AT MY CHILDREN FOR INSPIRATION
*HIRED A PERSONAL TRAINER
*CARDIO AT LEAST 4 DAYS A WEEK
*WEIGHT AND/OR STRENGTH TRAINING TWO DAYS A WEEK
*DRINK OVER A GALLON OF WATER A DAY
*WATCH MY FAT AND SUGAR CONTENT
*STEADILY INCREASING MY CALORIC INTAKE (I DON'T EAT ENOUGH CALORIES)
*CHAT ON A COUPLE OF FITNESS FORUMS FOR ACCOUNTABILITY




MY DAUGHTER'S REGIMINE:

Update...My husband couldn't take the crying and screaming when fixing her hair...seriously. I put in a texlax...guess what, it didn't take in appearance. I no longer have challenges in keeping her hair moisturized, but still have a very hard time combing her hair. So, the crying and screaming still goes on. LOL


SHE HAS VERY COILY HAIR THAT RANGES IN BSL TO MOSTLY MBL. MY SWEET PEA'S HAIR IS CHALLENGING TO SATURATE AND KEEP MOISTURIZED AND HOLD A STYLE. I LOVE HER NATURAL LOOK BUT I DO GET A LOT OF NEGATIVE COMMENTS FROM "ADULTS" TO PULL HER HAIR WITH A WARM COMB ONCE "THEY" REALIZE HER TRUE LENGTH. HER HAIR IS VERY THICK AND DISPLAYS UNBELIEVABLE SHRINKAGE.


NIGHTLY BAGGYING AND WEARS A SILK SCARF...MOSTLY, I USE CON ON THE ENDS AND SPRAY WITH CASTOR OIL AND ROSE WATER

SHE IS DC & CW 1X P/W, POO'd 2X A MONTH, AND I ALWAYS USE AN ACV RINSE BECAUSE OF THE CON OVERLOAD AND THICKNESS OF HER HAIR.
