- My name is Nikki and I am currently a long term transitioner. The last time I permed my hair was January of 2010. So I am 10 months into my natural journey for the second time. The first time I transitioned was in 01' not voluntary, but because while in college i couldn't afford a perm. I wore my hair in buns and ponytails a lot. It was healthy and thick and very long and I loved it. Then after a first time trip to the salon a scissor happy stylist chopped my hair after we agreed on long layers she gave me short. I was crushed and after another year I permed it. My hair grew long. It was down to my waist when I got married in 06' but then I noticed it starting to get shorter and I was not cutting it. I cut it off to my collar bone. Grew it for a year and then chopped again to donate ten inches to Locs of Love October of 09. And in January decided I didn't want to perm it any more. Give my hair a break from the creamy cracka dn embrace myself. Welcome to my journey.
