- I have been in MD for about 2 years. I'm originally from AL so the change was drastic for me. After moving to DC in October 2007, I started noticing the different styles that people were sporting and really liked them.My friend Anita was/is a constant source of information and inspiration throughout my whole natural hair journey and I just heart her hair!! Thanks for your patience and advice! I got my last perm November 2007 and from there my natural hair journey started! I tried to remember what my hair looked/felt like as a little girl but I couldn't remember much. So I asked my mom and she was like "I don't remember" and I was like you were in it more than me! I just remember hating to get my hair combed and washed! LOL As my new growth came in, I liked it but didn't want to cut off the perm right away. I never had short hair so I wasn't sure how it was gonna look. I transitioned using bantu knot outs as my staple style. I twisted my hair in the knots and then would take them out and it looked like a tight rollerset but it was cute! That style would last me for a week!!! I did this for almost a year cutting off the perm parts October 17, 2008!! I have always been a product junkie and if I thought it would work I was buying it! That habit hasn't changed since I've been natural and if anything has maybe gotten a little worse! ;-0 I have tried CD, KCCC, Mix Chicks, Donna Marie to name a few. I like to think that the reason that the reason why some of the products didn't work is b/c I still had perm ends a year after the fact I thought it was all gone!!! I've been told that my hair is curlier on the ends but I still feel like I'm in search of the perfect product for my hair! Also, I'm VERY impatient when it comes to my hair and I don't give anything a good trial period to determine if it'll work or not. I hope that since the perm ends are out that I will have better success! Out of all of the sites, I've visited the site I'm most in love with is curlynikki.com!!! Please check her out...she's great! I'm DESPERATELY trying to find a salon in the DMV area to cut my curly hair as this is one the most important aspects along with the care of the hair so if anybody has a stylist to recommend pls do!
