This album will chronicle my journey to hip length. I haven't really been diligent about documenting my progress, but it's better late than never. I'm going to try to take pictures every few months to add to this folder and if all goes well I'll be at hip length by March 2013. It will be exactly 6 years from my BC. Perhaps I'll make my goal even sooner. We'll see. I'll keep you all posted.
7/26/10 Based on my last length check, I think I could actually reach hip length in 2012. My nape currently measures at 12 inches, so I only need 8 more inches to reach my tail bone. I'm only 5'1". I'm pretty sure I can achieve that in two years time. Can't believe I'm only a couple of years away from reaching my goal.
8/12/11 I feel like I'm almost starting over because my hair is the same length it was when I first started this album. I recently cut about 6 or 7 inches to get rid of my layers. I wanted my hair to be one length. I'm going to start measuring my hair with my tape measure because in some of the pictures it looks like my hair isn't growing. I like the comparisons I can make with my stripped shirt, but I think the tape measure will allow me to be even more accurate.
Ok. I know this album is currently empty, but I will start working on it as soon as I get my camera back. I am straightening my hair tomorrow and getting a trim. I know I said I wasn't going to trim for a year, but I keep finding random split ends and I don't want them to hinder my progress. Also, I think I may be experiencing trichorrhexis nodosa on the ends of my hair. I was going to twist my hair and trim the ends, but that just didn't seem like the best plan for me. The two ends of the fist twist I trimmed weren't really well aligned. I decided it would be best for me to just straighten my hair and go to a professional like I have in the past. I'll try to post some pictures of my straightened hair because straightening is something I rarely do. Wish me luck.
5/25/10 I ended up getting my hair trimmed twice this month. The first lady that did it was not very confident in her ability to trim my hair. She never actually stated this, but it was obvious in her body language. I wanted to just get up out of the chair and leave, but I really didn't want to have to try to find someone else to trim my hair and I didn't want to try to keep my hair straight any longer. It was hot and I was tired of it. Needless to say she barely trimmed anything off and I ended up straightening my hair again a week later and finding a salon that specialized in our type of hair :o) The owner trimmed my hair and did an excellent job. I will be going to her in the future and I'm going to get back on my old regimen of trimming every 3 months.
I've wanted to wear lipstick since I was a little girl. I wore a dark brown lip gloss my senior year in high school that looked absolutely crazy on me. I'm on a quest to find lipsticks that I am comfortable with. I still need some pink and a good red. If I could find a red that I'm confident wearing out of the house I will have reached my ultimate lipstick goal. I have a red that I really like my NYX, but I feel like red is a really big deal and I don't have anything to wear it with right now. Its time is coming though.
7/16/10 I've decided to take it easy for a little while. I'll be wearing twists and a bunch of scarves. I just need a break from doing a whole lot to my hair. I've had a few really frustrating wash days and I just need a break before I end up doing something drastic.
8/1/10 I'm over my hair slump and ready to try some new things. I think I might be into braid outs. Just have to figure out how to get my hair to dry all the way. I'm totally up for suggestions.
March and April. What can I say. I'm still on my quest for super long hair. I don't plan on changing anything about my regimen really. Honestly, I don't have a regimen. I just do whatever comes to mind as far as hair styles are concerned. I wash once or twice a week, condition, moisturize and then style. I'm going to get my hair trimmed even though I wanted to do the seek and destroy method. I just don't feel like doing it anymore. I know there are some ends that need to go. I did the left side of my hair which took me several hours and I don't see myself doing the other side. I don't think a trim is going to hurt my progress too much. Wish me luck because the last thing I want is someone who isn't in love with my hair putting scissors to it. I'll try to remain calm. Maybe I'll to a twist and trim. Don't know yet, but I know I need to do something soon. I'll keep you posted.
4/5/10 Alright. So I've made my final decision about the trim situation. I've decided to follow in Teri's footsteps (from tightlycurly.com) and not trim my hair at all. I'm going to try this for a year. If after a year, or anytime before that, I notice that my ends are breaking off, splitting, or doing anything else that's not going to help me retain length, I will get a trim. I rarely blow dry or straighten my hair. I don't color it and I don't use any other types of harmful chemicals so I just don't see any reason to get a trim right now. I'm going against what I've believed for years with this decision. I always thought you had to get your hair trimmed every few weeks no matter how gentle you were with it. I'm not sure if I believe that anymore and I'm going to use my own hair to figure this thing out. Wish me luck. Hopefully at the end of this year I'll just have 6 more inches of healthy, curly hair. We shall see.
These are some of the hairstyles I wore in January with the exception of the "side hawk" and the curly fro. This was a huge experiment month since I wasn't in school. Now that school has started I have a feeling the styles are going to get a whole lot more simple and definitely less time consuming.
