Hair Type: majority of hair - 4a/4b; top/crown - 3c waves
Length: 8-10 inches (stretched)
Hair description: thick; significant shrinkage; dries in pen curl spirals in most areas; waves in the top/crown area; frizzy afro in patches throughout; coarse looking but soft/spongy to touch; does not reflect light to produce shine on its own; grows like crazy!

I started this fotki because I HAD to go natural with my hair. I have been relaxing my hair since the 8th grade (hmmm, about 1993-ish) until November 2006. After that last relaxer, my hair began to break off and thin out. I visited a doctor who gave me the simple advice to "Stop relaxing your hair."

I transitioned from November 2006 until March 2007 and then did the Big Chop (BC). You can see the process in my photo albums. I did one more hair cut in May 2007 to make sure all of the relaxed pieces were gone. Now I'm 100% natural. I follow the Curly Girl Method (CG method) for my hair (see My Links for natural hair). For those who cannot or are not willing to go natural, I suggest becoming a "stretcher" if you get your hair relaxed (see My Links for relaxed hair). I do not recommend this for everyone because you have to have a lot of patience and passion for healthy, managable natural OR relaxed hair.

Under "My Links" are links to hair care forums for natural hair and for relaxed hair. There is also a link to the place where I purchase my "hard to find" hair products.

Under "My Journal" is my regimen. It will continue to change as I am a self-professed product junkie (pj) and I love to try different products. I will give reviews in the photo albums of what products worked and did not work on my hair.

If you ever go natural or decide that you want healthier hair, you will notice that the idea spills over into other areas of your life. You will begin to eat healthier and live an all-around healthier lifestyle. With that said, if you are curious about cleansing your system, I have a video on the Master Cleanser in "My Video" section. I have done the cleanser 3 times with wonderful results and effects.
