Let me introduce myself....I am a hair addict and have spent many, many hours of my life on sites such as fotki getting my fix from admiring other people's hair. I have been really encouraged by loads of people on this site especially Kemi21 and bluegreen78. I never thought it was possible to achieve such thickness and lenght with that texture of hair over such short period of time so rI have decided I am going to challenge myself to acheve such long, healthy hair.
I have been natural for about 3 years now but I was never confident with my styling techniques so the result - my hair was always braided in extensions and was left out blowdried for a day every few months in between doing my extensions cos the lady doing my hair found my blowdried hair easier to plait. This grew my hair up to a point but I began to notice that it just gave up growing (now i realise it was just breaking off). Yes it was healthy but whenever I took out the extensions, half of my hair came off with it. I think it was more to do with my poor maintenance skills ( once my hair was in braids, i didnt do anything!). I decided that there was no point being natural if no one was ever gonna see it ..so I decided to let go of the extensions for good and try to survive without a blowdryer for at least 3 months (unless I am steaming my hair)
Well its been a month now and i have got a kind of regimen - not much to it
-Twists for as long as the look neat for a max of 6 weeks
-Moisturise ends with castor oil/ organic olive oil daily or once every 2 days
-Take twists out (no combing at this point), saturate with any conditioner warmed up ( eg leklair + EVOO+ coconut oil), leave for an hour, comb hair and rinse out
-leave to dry
-moisturise with castor oil
-repeat cycle all over again
Currently, my hair is about 8 inches all over except for the sides and front which are about 6 inches.
