My Routine:
Daily to Twice a Week:
Co-wash, condition, and style. I co-wash with diluted conditioner, then condition & detangle with a thicker moisturizing conditioner. Afterwards, I'll do 1 of 3 things:
-leave it in
-rinse, apply shea mixture, style with conditioner
-leave it in, apply shea mixture, style with gel.
*I use oil on a daily basis...whether it be added to my detangling conditioner, my leave in, or using my shea cream. Oil is *crucial* for me. Without it, my hair will break off big time.
At Night:
Multiple day hair rarely happens b/c I'm a very wild sleeper. In order to achieve multiple day hair, I do a bantu knot out:
-Take sections of dry wash n go hair
-apply oil moisturizer to length and ends
-twist & knot
-in the AM, unravel and separate for fullness
Weekly:
Deep Condition.
When it comes to deep-treating, I lean toward homemade conditioners:
Honey & Oil (damp hair)
Coconut Milk (dry hair)
Coconut Cream Concentrate (damp hair)
Yogurt & Honey (damp/dry hair)
Shea Cream (wet hair)
Egg & Olive Oil or jarred Mayo (dry hair pre-poo)
Amla (damp hair that has been coated with oil)
Cassia (damp hair that has been coated with oil)
Conditioner+ any of the aforementioned treatments (dry hair)
Shampoo:
I alternate between sulfate shampoo, sulfate-free shampoo, and bentonite clay for cleansing. Typically, I use sulfate shampoo most, but to prevent over-shampooing, I'll use sulfate-free or the clay. I shampoo once a week to every 2 weeks..
Rinses:
For sheen and body, usually no more than once or twice a month, after shampooing & conditioning :
-Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse
-Honey & Water Rinse
-Beer Rinse
Mixtures:
Co-wash: 25% conditioner, 75% water (Always TIGI MM)
Leave In Spray: (50% water, 30% conditioner, 20% oil or glycerine, squirt of honey)
Shea Cream: shea butter, coconut oil, olive oil, aloe, glycerine, honey, peppermint oil.
Moisturizing Leave In: 25% shea butter, 25% conditioner, 50% water
ACV Rinse: 25% ACV, 75% water
Honey Rinse: 25% honey, 75% water
Beer Rinse: 12oz cool, flat beer
This is my 100% real routine. I've had lots of time, trial, and error with my natural hair, but this regimen has been most beneficial to the health and vitality of my hair.

**Over the years I've gotten asked about my hair type. If I had to guess I'd say I'm a Type 4 with Type 3 hair characteristics...meaning my hair waves & coils in the tight pattern of Type 4 hair, but it's texture and behavior is more related to Type 3 hair.
