I have worn a relaxer since I was about 7 years old. Since that time, I have had braids w/extensions, cut my perm out to get a jheri curl, cut out my jheri curl to get a relaxer again, and wore microbraids. For the last couple of years, I have worn sew-in hair extensions for length and full hair.

About 14 weeks ago, I went to dinner with a friend and complimented her hair and asked where she got her extensions done. Suprisingly, it was her real hair! She told me she had been relaxer free for two years! At that point, I decided I wanted to stop using hair extensions and achieve full and long hair the natural way. Unfortunately, my hairdresser disagreed and pressured me for 8 weeks to get a full hair weave.

It's been about 14 weeks since I stopped wearing extensions, and I am excited to begin the process of transitioning from relaxed to natural hair. Two things I have noticed: I have an awesome hair texture that is resiliently strong AND my hairline has begun to grown back fuller than it ever was with a relaxer!

I am here to get inspiration from others who have done the transition, and also document my own experience.
