About the Succulent Plants & Lithops.

1.- Why are these known as "Succulent" Plants?.

The succulent plants are knowed by this name because the important load of water these contain inside or are composed by. Most of their composition is water.
Their water storage is an adaptation mechanism , living and growing in arid or desertic soils and landscapes. Most of them are naturally borning in places like South Africa, like most of the cactis.
Their natural habitat uses to be South Africa.

2.- Where can live and grow?.

They can live and grow in every place over Earth, always You prepare a good and proper climatization and light, for these.
Although their natural habitat is South Africa,
I have found many, many artifiitial enviroments created to the conservation, care and multiplication of various species of Aizoaceae Family or Succulent Plants; in countries like: Spain, United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, China, Taiwan or Japan. Specially, in Japan I found great interest for these kind of plants. So, most of the cactis growers also grows succulents.

3.- Where and how can I find Succulent Plants and/ or lithops?.

In nowdays, it´ very easy order these via Internet, mail or just find these in specialized nurseries or gardening-centers. Anyway, I will add a list of links to specialized nurseries or providers of Succulent-Plants.
It´ very easy find these kind of plants in our cities, shops and marketing-centers; how not: including: Gardening-Stores. Sometimes I found these plants in the cactis section or betwen cactis plants, althought obviously these are not.

4.- Are these Cactis?.
It´ s very important knowing succulent plants are not cactis.
By my own experience I can say that succulents are more sensitives and need a bit more of water. As example: lithops and specially: conophytums.
You can realize succulent plants have softer and different shape, not so protected with pits like our friends the cactis. Succulent Plants have not pits, They use different kinds of protection, like : mimetization of stones or enviroment: like in the sensitive case of the Lithops; commonly knows as "Living Stones".
