- I started growing out my perm last January 2006, and transitioned until Valentine's Day 2007. I didn't really do one "Big Chop", but rather a series of "BIG CHOPS". Each time I cut my hair, I was cutting at least 2 to 3 inches. Most recently, I cut about 4.
I will probably still straighten my hair from time to time, but I wanted the freedom to color it, wear it curly and/or nappy and to be FREE OF CHEMICALS!!!
I can't wait to see what my natural hair looks like! I'm seeing curls, coils and waves that I haven't seen since I was a little girl, and I am LOVING IT! I don't expect this journey to be easy. I have never been a hair person, so I know it will be frustrating at times. However, there is nothing like having my natural hair back!
Right now my hair is still past my shoulders when stretched or straightened. Like some of you, I've set a personal challenge of WAIST LENGTH!!!
Weird things I've noticed about my hair:

The back is really coily! Coils are starting to form on the sides too. The front still has some straight pieces, but little by little, I see the coils coming as it's growing. My texture is really strange right now.
I have a problem with dryness! It's getting a little better now, because I've been using Daily Doctor everyday, and sleeping with a plastic cap "a la Jheri curl" every night.

I am an elementary school teacher. I have a Masters in Education, and am currently working on becoming a certified Reading Specialist to work with children with learning disabilities.
I love music! I love to sing and write songs!! My major in college was Communications. Prior to teaching, I worked in radio and television writing commericals and news.
My boyfriend is a Grammy nominated songwriter and producer, and I'm trying to follow his lead and write a few songs to my credit.
