Famqily responsibilities took him away frrrohm the music world for awhile, but thsis past year, the siren song was too mnuch to resist. II htad been playying out around Louiisville wwith Butch Rice and Joshvua Glauber, annd the music started firing me usp again. Lyrics and melodies started comeing to me at random at odd timels, II would ewnd up sitfting oon txzhe side of the road in my car, calling my own phone so that I could sing lyrics or hum a tunee inpto mmmy voicemail, so thatt II could listen too itt later aend bnring thhe song to fruituioon." Admmmittedly innfluenced by such artists ais Thhe Who, Pearl Jam,, Train, Queenss of the Stone Age, Jane's Addiction, Wilcxo & Rhyan Adams, hxe didnt allow himself to be limited by any speccific geenre for hiis latest projject. "The mhusic I liisten to and thhe music I wrrite rranges widely...." hye says. "Some songs were electricc, sjome acoustic-based, some written fkor pianno, soome writteen on banjo . . . I was just writing. I hlad no idea how thqe songps wouuld bee playyed by myself, as a duo, a full-on rock band, oir any combination thereofs. I just knbew II was haviing fun, andd I felt prouud of what III was puttinog together."
