Dear Fotki Friends (meaning those who have access to my photos),

Fotki has not given me the option to disallow people from choosing to be notified of future comments on my images. This means that people can choose to get copies of comments made on my photos. Fotki not only spews out the comment into their inbox, but included in the email is the thumbnail image of my photo.

The crazy stupid thing is that people get notified of public comments made on private photos even if they commented privately AND even if they no longer have access to the photo. I know this for a fact since I did my own testing.

Most importantly, this is a violation of my copyright. I do not want the thumbnail size of my images in anyone's inbox. Those images stay in the inbox for eternity, even after the recipient loses access to my site. That is why I do not want Fotki to put my thumbnail images of my copyrighted material in anyone's inbox.

My images are my property. I choose to post them exclusively on Fotki but Fotki takes it upon themselves to repost my images in a thumbnail size into the inboxes of those who request comment notifications. It is upsetting that Fotki does not respect my privacy, the privacy of my Friends who comment, and my copyright.

Until Fotki stops giving people the option to get my thumbnail images in their inboxes, Folders 2, 3 and the Best Of are off limits to everyone since those folders contain my most personal photos.

I tried to circumvent these notifications by making comments just viewable to me. But one of my Friends wound up getting notification of comments that were supposed to be just viewable to me. So it seems there is no way for me to prevent anyone from signing up for notifications.

Fotki is focusing on networking because they are trying to make a buck. They can do so but not using my photos which feature my face, my body, my creativity, my visual wit (Eye-see's term for the humor in my photos) and my derriere.

I strongly suggest that you email customer service to tell them that networking is nice, but privacy and copyright need to be first and foremost. Respecting our rights is paramount. The right to privacy and exclusive rights to display our images where we so choose is crucial and cannot be sacrificed to the networking god. Privacy and copyright MUST trump networking. But Fotki disagrees.

Fotki needs to realize that different people post different kinds of photos. Landscapes, flowers & objects are different than personal photos. I post personal photos so I am upset at the choice given for notifications. If I posted non-personal photos, I would not be upset.

If Fotki shuts me down for the stink I am making about this, it is because they value their profit over my copyright and privacy.

For privacy and sanity, my guestbook and photos are only available to those who are on my Friends list.

I am sorry that I do not automatically add people as a friend if I comment on their photos. Not everyone thanks me for my comments, let alone comments on my Folder 1 photos when I give them access. In the end, it is a waste time adding everyone. If you want to thank me for comments and I did not add you as a friend, here is an alternate gb of mine
