This is my hair journey. For the last 6 years or so, I've been on a quest for healthy hair. I started a healthy growth challenge with the Long Hair Care Forum (LHCF) from about 2002 - 2006. Around 2006-2007 I started to put more color in my hair and so it became very weak, thin and brittle. From that point, I started talking to my napptural friends and they convinced me to try going natural and break away from the heat and chemcals, aka. color and creamy crack. So I started doing research on websites such as nappturality and motown girl. From those sites, I learned that the chemical treaments and heat were really damaging to my hair and that altering my hair from it kinky, curly state is more of mind thing and lack of knowledge of how to care for our hair than anything else.

I always grew up hearing girls comparing how long their hair is to each other, oooh, girl you need a touch up, don't touch my roots because I got a mini afro under there. I NEED to get a relaxer because my hair is too unmanagable and it hurts too much. I was relaxer free (not heat free) up until I was age 11, which only happened once the the lady who usually relaxed my hair and gotten up in age and stared burning peoples head and hair (so we were told not to go back) so since my mom was busy with her job, with our activities and a new baby on the way, she decided it was time for us to get a relaxer. I was so excited and nervous at the same time, because I didn't have to worry about my ear, back of neck, or forehead getting burned again, the big pile of grease that took two weeks to go "dry out". But then, I was scared because my mom was like, don't scratch your scalp one week before or it will burn! So I was like, well, I don't want my scalp to burn, but at least if I just don't scratch it won't burn, it's better than a hot comb and I won't have to get my hair straightened every two weeks, it will be every two months or so! So for the past decade or more, I've been getting relaxers (mostly by my mom) and now I'm tired of my hair breaking off and being a slave of the white fire cream.
